Blogiversary: 1 Year of Bliss...

So, maybe this is an indication of how I will be when I get married (Inshallah it happens one of these days) but my Blogiversary was over a week ago (January 17th, to be exact) and I haven't said a single word about it. So I'm celebrating...late, but still celebrating.

I blame this, first and foremost, on the fact that I was in Mexico City that weekend and wasn't about to spend precious vacay time behind a computer. Not that I don't love my bloggie...but, well, yeah, I shouldn't have to defend myself in this particular case. More on the idyllic 5 days in sunny Mexico to come...photos, overdone literary descriptions of countless vistas, and third-circle worthy accounts of the copious amounts of REAL Mexican food that we consumed...the whole deal.

Anyway...back to the blog. So, I have to say I have been really glad that I started the blog. It's been a great way for me to keep in touch with my friends and family, as well as catalogue some of the truly amazing experiences I've had in the last year, as well as tell some of my favorite stories.

So, in light of the one year blogiversary, I thought I would put down a few New Year's Blogolutions (that one doesn't work quite as well as Blogiversary, does it?) as well as open up the forum to comments, questions, requests and suggestions.

So, I thought of a few things I wanted to try to do this year to maximize my blogging (and in turn the reading of my faithful followers). Here are a few ideas:

  • Start a series of some sort (I am open to suggestions)
  • Fewer monster posts and more smaller snippets and random commentary on things I've seen/heard/thought about...lucky you
  • Complete at least one full photo essay
  • Recount more of my childhood experiences
  • Insert more links...everyone deserves a little YouTube
  • Write more interactive posts (ie posts that solicit responses from readers)
  • Tweak my HTML to use the space more efficiently (don't count on this happening any time in the too near future...me + technology = big problems)
  • Write more about the things I've learned (life, faith, love, friends, politics, language, culture, you name it...sometimes it's good to talk about the lessons we learn)
So there are a few changes I've been wanting to implement to make the bloggie better. I turn, I am soliciting input from my faithful readers. Let me know what you think:
  • Suggestions
  • Requests for posts/stories
  • Constructive Criticism
  • Superfluous Praise
  • General Comments
I've opened up my comments section to allow for anonymous comments so you don't even have to sign up for a google account to leave your thoughts! I do it all for the fans! Okay, just kidding...I'm over myself. Seriously though, you're comments are what keep me going.

To start the year out right, here's a little activity for your Tuesday 2:00pm post-lunch food coma (come on, I know that's when you're reading this...I promise I won't tell your boss)...Peruse the bloggie and shoot me a note...let me know what your favorite post of last year was, and, if you feel so inclined, the one you liked the least. This will give me a good idea of what people might like to see...And like I said, it's all for you!

So, here's to all those who talked me into starting this thing in the first place, and to those of you who encourage (read harrass) me to keep up regular (okay, okay, semi-regular) posts. You know who you are!

Here's lookin' at you, Bloggie! And to the year full of blissful blogging yet to come!

I'm afraid I'm a really bad person to ask this question as I adore and consume all of your posts....I love hearing about your adventures (running marathons, camping on the frigid beach), I love hearing your childhood stories, most of which I have heard, but they are priceless, I love seeing your pictures, I love hearing your thoughts on santa claus. I could go on. Just more more more is my comment. Shocking coming from me, I know....

Amanda, I found your blog a while ago and have checked it quite often. I always like to read what you have to say. I wish I could make my life sound as fun and exciting as yours is. We are enjoying life here in AZ. If you ever need a sunshine fix, you are more than welcome to crash this party.

Fav's: By Popular Demand and Bragging Rights.
Least Fav: Waking Up in Assateague (Remember, this is relatively speaking. I love all your posts).
Not to be biased, but I love the stories about your superior childhood experiences with your extraordinary family. (Heh)
I know pictures are a challenge, but they are always fun to see, even if they aren't necessarily yours, especially when they illustrate a point. Does that mean I just love picture books? I guess we really do regress as we get older:o(
